Pertamina’s 54th anniversary celebrations last December was marred by bad news. The KPK announced it would investigate charges of corruption and collusion between state-owned Pertamina and Humpuss, a company owned by Tommy Suharto, on the questionable extension of a lease agreement involving its tanker, Ekaputra. The original contract was signed at the height of Suharto’s N ew Order regime, when his family regarded Pertamina as a cash cow. T he case has become a hot political potato. Meanwhile, officials at BP M igas, the oil and gas regulatory board, claimed they were broadsided by the whole issue.
