SIXTY years of independence has not freed Indonesia from the convoluted problem of sovereignty over territory. After East Timor and Sipadan-Ligitan had to be relinquished, people are beginning to be aware how vulnerable are the border markers of this country, both at sea and on land. The resolution of nationalism matters must be synchronized with the waves of globalization and democracy.
