TWO politicians from PAN, the National Mandate Party, are reportedly brokering land-use licenses issued by the Forestry Ministry. This ‘short-cut’ method is seen by unscrupulous businessmen as the most expedient way for them to exploit forest areas. Of course, there’s a price for this. Some say the amount varies between Rp500 million and Rp5 billion, reportedly going to the minister and the coffers of his political party.
