FORMER Justice & Human Rights Minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra and ex-owner of PT Sarana Rekatama, Hartono Tanoesoedibjo last week were declared suspects in a corruption case involving the Justice Department’s Legal Entity Administration System—otherwise known as Sisminbakum. The Attorney General claims to have enough proof to show that money flowed from the project into Yusril’s pockets. The registration fees of entities deposited in thousands of notary offices throughout Indonesia reportedly ended up in Hartono’s accounts instead of in state coffers. State losses are thought may total more than Rp400 billion. Why is the case exposed now?
