GAYUS Tambunan was sentenced to seven years in prison and fi ned Rp300 million for accepting tax bribes, a much reduced sentence from what the attorney general demanded. The general reaction has been dismay and shock at the light punishment given the seriousness of his crime. After sentencing, Gayus charged the Judicial Mafi a Task Force of politicizing his case. Palace aides are now having to clarify their positions while the judges urge the police and the prosecutor to move fast to expose Gayus’s escapades from detention.
