ON Sunday morning, December 26, 2004, Aceh was witness to unimaginable scenes of horror and destruction. The recent earthquake and tsunami claimed the most victims in the history of the whole archipelago. Fortunately, the public, both international and domestic, stirred into action. Help flowed in from everywhere, as feelings of solidarity set in, breaking the divisions among us. Unfortunately, the lack of preparation among our leaders in managing natural disasters stands in stark contrast to the suffering of the Acehnese. But the horrific disaster has happened. The only thing to do is continue rescuing those who are still alive, helping those in difficulty, going through dead bodies and debris with little hope left.
