CANDIDATES running for governor of Jakarta have officially registered at the Regional Elections Commission (KPUD). Golkar nominee Alex Noerdin is running with Nono Sampono while incumbent Fauzi Bowo will go with Adang Ruchyatna from PDI-P. The first independent to run for the office of Jakarta governor is Hendardji Supandji, although another independent, economist Faisal Basri, seems to have failed to garner the required support for his candidacy. Behind their nominations are murky political deals that may involve irregularities and even some legal violations. Some see the elections in the capital city as a trial practice run to the 2014 presidential elections.
