FOR years a timber mafia plundered the forests of Ketapang, West Kalimantan. The Joint National Police-Forestry Department Team estimates state losses of Rp32.4 trillion annually. Three weeks ago the Team was able to dismantle the mafia’s timber network. Among those arrested were the head of the local Forestry Office and the Ketapang Police Chief.
