JUSUF Kalla is in a spot. As General Chairman of Golkar he is being pushed to run for president representing the banyan tree party. However, a number of polls show that his vote-worthiness is low, hence his preference to become Yudhoyono’s running mate. Within his own political party, he faces three camps: those who wish to retain the SBY-JK duo; the group that wants them to split up; and those who want a presidential candidate other than the Vice President. Kalla faces three difficult choices.
