SJAHRIL Djohan allegedly played a prominent role in the “dismissal” of a number of legal cases. Comr. Gen. Susno Duadji, the former chief of detectives at National Police Headquarters, accuses Sjahril of being the main player behind the case of Gayus Tambunan—a low-level tax officer who had billions of rupiah in his bank account. According to information obtained by Tempo, Sjahril had a major influence over the Tanggerang District Court, which freed Gayus from cases of corruption, money laundering, and embezzlement.
