THE new leadership of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) was announced last week. Antasari Azhar, the prosecutor who people feel has a questionable record, was elected as the new chairman of the institution. The Golkar and PDI-P parties played important roles behind the election outcome. Amien Sunaryadi, the candidate anticorruption activists felt was most suitable to lead the KPK, was squeezed out of contention. Tempo witnessed the entire election drama as it played out at the House of Representatives.
