THE Supreme Court intended to put businessman Joko Tjandra and former Bank Indonesia Governor Syahril Sabirin behind bars for their involvement in a case 10 years ago: the transfer of Bank Bali’s debt collection rights. The court sentenced Joko, owner of the Mulia Group, to a two-year jail term. But a day before the verdict, Joko fl ew to Papua New Guinea on a chartered jet. Meanwhile, Syahril is resigned to his fate.
