Reversal Of Fortune
THE Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) finally arrested 26 suspects involved in the travelers’ checks bribery case linked to the 2004 election of Miranda Gultom as Bank Indonesia Senior Deputy Governor. They are all members of the DPR Finance & Banking Commission. The case was stalled at one time because the suspects put up a tough defense.
The KPK’s breakthrough in the middle of the Ramadan fasting month is like a second wind in Indonesia’s battle against corruption. How did the KPK get to this decision? Why haven’t the bribers been arrested? Follow Tempo’s trail as we trace the steps that led to the KPK’s risky but decisive action.
