State Of Illegal Logging
PRESIDENT Yudhoyono’s sister-in-law is rumored to be behind attempts to block police probes on a case of illegal logging involving timber company PT Sumalindo Lestari Jaya. Wijiasih Cahyasasi has been Sumalindo’s president commissioner since last September. At that time company CEO Amir Sunarko and his deputy were about to be tried for illegal logging in East Kalimantan.
Tempo’s investigation indicates that Wijiasih and a number of Sumalindo people attempted to meet with National Police Chief Bambang Hendarso Danuri, East Kalimantan Police Chief, Insp. Gen. Mathius Salempang, and even Forestry Minister Zulkifli Hasan. How did the Cikeas family get dragged into the case?
