THE decision to select popular Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo as PDI-P’s presidential nominee was not an easy one to reach, by all party accounts. The internal struggle between party stalwarts, and even among chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri’s own family members, colored the debate and the discussion on who would vie for the nation’s top job. Finding a suitable running mate for a winning PDI-P ticket is likely to be another fi erce battleground.
