AN increasing number of historical buildings are in a state of disrepair in many Indonesian cities. One by one these historical landmarks are changing hands. The new owners raze them to the ground, to make way for more modern and extravagant buildings. Historical and cultural value is being lost in the remnants of these ancient structures. Recently, however, some city governments and private parties have begun restoring these buildings.
