SLOWLY, the mystery of Mount Padang’s ‘pyramid’ at Cianjur, West Java, is unraveled. One by one, researchers are fi nding evidence that the stone structure at the base of the mountain is man-made and not a natural formation. Radars also indicate the presence of a place of worship. If this hypothesis can be proven, the structure forgotten for decades will overshadow the pyramids of Egypt. The age of Mount Padang’s ‘pyramid’ is presumed to be 4,700 to 10,900 years BC. Compare that with the 2,500 BC pyramids of Egypt. Yet, some scientists question the methodology of the research, suggesting that it is too premature to make any announcement.
