PRESIDENT Yudhoyono has nominated General Sutanto as the new chief of National Police to the House of Representatives. Sutanto, who graduated at the top of the class of 1973 at the police academy, is known for his contempt towards individuals suspected to be leaders of local crime syndicates, despite their possible connections to his seniors. This stance has led the soft-spoken general to be posted for short periods as police chief in the provinces, before finally ending up in academia. Why is he the sole candidate?
