THE dispute between the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and National Police has wrecked the government’s image following recordings played at the Constitutional Court indicating a conspiracy was plotted to attack the KPK.       The recordings of wiretapped conversations between Anggodo Widjojo—brother of Anggoro Widjojo, a suspect in the corrupt procurement of Forestry Department radio communication equipment— with senior officials of the Attorney General’s Office and police shows something is not right with our legal system. If little or nothing is done to correct the situation, the effort to eradicate corruption will fade away, unable to withstand the constant attacks by corrupt officials and intervention of ‘case’ brokers who get paid to seek settlement.
